'R' Spec Tyres
Q. I am looking to get into some basic racing. A friend of mine who races said there is someone around town who sells wheels and road legal/race tyre. Not sure of the name. I was hoping you know who the person is and can point me in the right direction?

A. If you are looking for wheels as well as tyres then the best place to go is Wheels World in Osborne Park. John Fowler is the man who runs the business so talk to him on 9244 2277. John is very knowlegeable on all matters related to wheels, tyres (road and track) and suspension set-up.

The 'road legal race tyres', your friend referred to, are generally known as 'R' spec tyres which are manufactured with a race compound and have a tread pattern (crucial for wet weather) as opposed to slicks which have none. For example, check out the Toyo Proxes R888 at this link:

There is a reasonably wide range of makes available including Dunlop, Bridgestone, Yokohama, Kumho and Toyo to name a few. Compounds vary from one manufacturer to another and your choice would be dependant on the degree to which you want to get into racing.
